A UV filter not only offers protection but is capable of removing enough Ultra Violet light to reduce excessive blue and haze to clearly improve your images. “Protectors” offer protection but no UV filtration capability and its optical quality is no better than plain window glass. A UV filter will filter out unwanted UV light and prevent a UV “fogging/haze” effect” which can result in inaccurate color and lower the apparent sharpness. When shooting outside without a UV filter, white areas often will show a bluish tint and skin tones can appear less natural and “cool” looking.
